On Monday, December 4 in an op-ed in the San Francisco Chronicle, GO Public Schools Oakland Executive Director Ash Solar highlighted the importance of using collaboration and diverse community perspectives to choose the next OUSD Superintendent.
“Now, we face the choice of a new superintendent — one we aim to retain longer than the couple of years that has become Oakland’s norm and who must be committed to ensuring equity and opportunity in education for all students. We’re determined that the voices of traditionally underserved families and educators are included in choosing that leader. Likewise, we’re determined that these conversations will focus on what’s working best for all public school students in Oakland — and stay as far away as possible from politics and ideology.
Our call to everyone who has a stake in our schools — not just parents and teachers, but anyone who cares about our community — is to be part of that.”
