Turning Reclassification Data into Action
Families, educators, and community partners across California are using Forward, Together: A Parent’s Guide to Reclassification to better understand English Learner data and identify ways to support students’ language growth. This year’s reclassification data reveals both hard-won progress and areas that call for renewed focus.
WCCUSD’s data shows how urgent this work is. With only 7.5% of English Learners reaching ELPAC Level 4, just 527 students entered the year eligible to reclassify, far below the 919 students who achieved it last year. This means fewer students are gaining access to the classes and opportunities that come after reclassification. These numbers underscore the urgent need for systems-level shifts that help students make steady language growth and reach their full potential.
Every reclassification story is a victory – for the student, their family, and the community that supported them. But every student still on the journey deserves that same chance.
