Why I GO
"I GO because educators need to know the decisions being made above us impact our classrooms and our students. We also need to be at the table whenever we can to influence those decisions and advocate for our kids and their families."

Why public education?

Education is the key that opens doors to so many possibilities. I want to show my students how they can use that key to reach their goals and follow their dreams.

Why Oakland?

I landed in Oakland in 2011 through Teach for America. I am passionate about Oakland because it is a place that values diversity, community and social justice. I always tell people that I have the most incredible students in the country that are filled with promise, talent, drive and deeply rooted beliefs unlike anything I’ve ever encountered. Oakland is AMAZING!

Favorite quote and why?

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.” — Dr. Seuss. This quote reminds me that I am empowered to make my life what I want it to be. This quote also reminds me that I need to teach my students that they have that exact same power inside them.
